Michele Firra Ward, PT, owner of In-Motion Physical Therapy Services, received a BS in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University in 1981, and completed her BS in Physical Therapy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Dallas in 1988. She completed postgraduate course work in biomedical engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. Her continuing education includes training in industrial consulting, advanced education in gait analysis and orthotic prescription, athletic and performing arts repetitive strain injuries, general orthopedics and spinal and manual therapy topics.
Michele's areas of expertise are shoulders and lower extremities and she is an expert in manual therapy techniques. Other areas of professional interest include all aspects of motion analysis, ergonomic considerations in the workplace and work site modification/injury protection. She practices Pilates and incorporates Pilates into her patient's exercise program when appropriate.
Michele is also an avid organic gardener and canine enthusiast. Nutrition and wellness are also keen interests and natural extensions of her first love of chemistry. If not in the garden, Michele loves cooking, photography and attending live performances and art shows.
Dr. Joan received her BS in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College in conjunction with Albany Medical School in 1953. She received her masters degree in counseling from Texas Woman's University in 1969 and in 2008 earned her PhD in women's health in physical therapy from Texas Woman's University. She has over 50 years of clinical practice and has treated tens of thousands of patients throughout her career. Joan has taken countless continuing education courses and has taught many courses at Texas Woman's University as well as other universities throughout Texas. She was instrumental in the licensure for physical therapists in the state of Texas and still makes time to meet with local and state leaders to discuss important issues that affect the future of the physical therapy community. As a pioneer in her field, she has implemented many physical therapy programs in hospital settings before going into private practice. She continues her lifelong commitment to treating patients.
Joan is an inspiration to anyone who meets her. She attributes her exuberance for life to spirituality, nutrition, and exercise. She enjoys the symphony, swimming, gardening, traveling, snow skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
David is a licensed massage therapist with 22 years experience. He thoroughly enjoys interacting with his clients. As a massage therapist, he specializes in myofascial release of the cervical spine, lumbar spine and shoulder region and includes Class II and Class IV laser application. He has treated many patients with sports-related injuries, post-motor vehicle accidents, work-related injuries and those who just need a relaxing massage. David also offers canine massage therapy and cold laser application for his dog loving clients. David's mantra: "anima sanitas est" (healing is life giving).
Susie has had an administrative role in physical therapy for over 20 years. She has seen many changes in healthcare and is proud to be a part of a family practice with such true conviction to healing their patients regardless of the ever changing healthcare system. Working in a physical therapy clinic for many years and having Michele and Joan as role models, she knows how essential it is to stay active so when she is not at work, she stays busy with her sisters and close friends. Susie and her husband, David enjoy hiking and taking long walks with their dog by their side and spontaneous weekend road trips.
